How to Review and Strengthen Observation and Assessment Practice
With a much sharper focus on assessment and observation practices in the Revised EYFS, now is a good time for schools and settings to review and develop their existing processes to ensure that they underpin the careful planning of a curriculum that meets the needs of all of our children
In this course, we will explore the new statutory requirements, recommendations and core principles and help you to review your current practices; the tools and strategies you use and how they support the unique child.
There will be course materials to read and tasks to undertake to maximise impact.
The programme will cover:
Part 1: Exploring Principles & Practice
We start by asking you to reflect on whether your assessment procedures enable your whole team to engage in professional dialogue about what your children know and can do, and support you as a team to take children’s learning forward. Help to evaluate your current practices will be the focus .
Part 2: Reflecting on What and Why
We then move on to explore the revised statutory requirements and supporting materials, helping you to identify aspects of your assessment practice that require further development. This will include the role of moderation and how as a process it can be used to secure robust assessment and shape staff development.
Part 3: Looking Closely at Observation and Assessment
Finally we focus on securing high-quality observational practice ensuring that the whole team can assess effectively, talk confidently about where children are in their development and learning and engage in planning experiences and interactions that raise outcomes for all.
Benefits:
Evaluate your current assessment practices in light of the revised EYFS statutory framework
Deepen your knowledge of the revised EYFS statutory framework and your statutory obligations as an EYFS teacher
Develop strategies to strengthen your observation, assessment and quality-assurance practices
