The Revised EYFS: How to Review & Strengthen Observation & Assessment Practice

A three-part webinar package for EYFS leaders and teachers seeking to evaluate whether their assessment process reflects the new EYFS Framework and supports all children in making good progress

With a much sharper focus on assessment and observation practices in the Revised EYFS, now is a good time for schools and settings to review and develop their existing processes to ensure that they underpin the careful planning of a curriculum that meets the needs of all of our children

In this three-part webinar, we will explore the new statutory requirements, recommendations and core principles and help you to review your current practices; the tools and strategies you use and how they support the unique child.

There will be course materials to read and gap tasks to undertake to maximise impact.

Session One: Exploring Principles & Practice

In this first session we will be asking you to reflect on whether your assessment procedures enable your whole team to engage in professional dialogue about what your children know and can do, and support you as a team to take children’s learning forward. Help to evaluate your current practices will be the focus .

Session Two: Reflecting on What and Why

During this second session we will explore the revised statutory requirements and supporting materials, helping you to identify aspects of your assessment practice that require further development. This will include the role of moderation and how as a process it can be used to secure robust assessment and shape staff development.

Session 3: Looking Closely at Observation and Assessment

In this third and final session we focus on securing high-quality observational practice ensuring that the whole team can assess effectively, talk confidently about where children are in their development and learning and engage in planning experiences and interactions that raise outcomes for all.

  • Review and evaluate existing assessment processes in light of the revised EYFS Framework, to ensure they support all children in making good progress
  • Identify any aspects of your assessment practice that requires further development, and consider effective moderation opportunities
  • Ensure that the principles of high-quality observational practice are embedded in your approach
