Knowledgeable Leadership - The Adult

Strategic Snapshots: Interactions that Shape Learning

Description

This bite-sized CPD session forms part of a wider series designed to support senior leaders in driving improvement, raising standards and strengthening early years practice. Each session maintains a strong focus on principled practice while aligning closely with current inspection priorities, with particular emphasis on child development, high-quality provision and effective leadership.

This session explores the role of the adult in supporting and extending children’s learning through high-quality interactions. It encourages leaders to reflect on how effectively practitioners use communication, questioning and responsive teaching to promote children’s thinking, engagement and progress. The session also supports leaders to evaluate how interactional practice is developed, monitored and strengthened across the setting, in line with expectations for high-quality teaching and learning.

Key Benefits:

  • Strengthens leaders’ understanding of what high-quality adult-child interactions look like and how they support children’s learning, language and development.

  • Supports leaders to evaluate and develop practitioner practice, promoting more responsive teaching and higher levels of engagement across the setting.

  • Helps leaders identify approaches to coaching, monitoring and professional development that improve the consistency and impact of interactions on children’s progress.
