Rethink and Strengthen KS1 Practice and Provision
Exploring the Expectations & Implications for Leaders
Description
How Effective is your Key Stage One? How good is the quality of teaching and learning? As a school leader, how do you know? How confident do you feel in understanding and articulating this?
It has always been important that KS1 practice offers continuity from the EYFS, providing an approach to teaching and learning which both reflects the developmental stage of the children and offers increasing challenge, enabling all pupils to make progress towards end of Key Stage expectations. Schools are required to closely examine how the whole learning journey is connected and sequenced so it is essential that school leaders know how to best achieve this through teaching, learning and the effective use of the learning environment.
During this twilight briefing, we examine what research and data tell us about the development of 5, 6 & 7-year-old children, how they learn best and how this should be reflected in practice. Senior Leaders will be supported to start to evaluate their current KS1 provision to ensure that pedagogical approaches connect meaningfully to the curriculum and that key learning behaviours underpinning academic attainment are prioritised.
