Ensuring a Connected Curriculum in KS1
How to Build a Progressive Curriculum Across All Areas of Learning
Description
This course has been designed to support you with developing a KS1 curriculum which meets the needs of your children, and that is brought to life through engaging and meaningful learning experiences. During the sessions, we will look at ways to meaningfully connect a curriculum that started in the EYFS as it moves through to KS1 and beyond; exploring the key knowledge, skills, understanding and learning behaviours that children develop as they move through the school.
Definitions of Curriculum
We start by reviewing definitions of Curriculum, examining how our aims and values influence the decisions we make about what and how children learn. We will reflect on the interconnected nature of child development and how this relates to teaching and learning experiences from the EYFS and into KS1.
Explore Writing & Number
With a focus on Writing and Number, we will examine how your KS1 curriculum is translated into action, reflecting on ways to ensure that learning is effectively embedded and revisited over time.
Understanding the World
With a particular focus on Geography, History and Science, we finish by considering practical examples that demonstrate how learning in the EYFS Understanding the World educational programme builds a secure foundation for these subjects in KS1, and how this can be connected to the unique nature of your school.
