Strengthening High-Quality Provision & Practice for 2-3yr olds

Moving Forward: Challenging practitioners to deliver the highest quality practice and provision to meet the needs of 2-3 yr old children in schools

Description

Building on our popular course Developing Provision and Practice for 2–3 Year Olds, this new three-part programme is designed to extend professional knowledge, strengthen pedagogy, and enhance curriculum thinking for those working with two-year-olds.

Through theory, reflection, and practical exemplification, the course supports practitioners to shape thoughtful, responsive practice and to design rich provision that reflects a deep understanding of how two-year-olds learn, develop, and thrive.

Each session combines expert insight, examples of effective provision, and opportunities for reflection and practical planning to support on-going development.

Focusing on key aspects of pedagogy and provision, the session themes are:

Part 1: Understanding the Learner — Deepening Curriculum Thinking

Explore the unique characteristics of two-year-olds and how this dynamic stage of development shapes learning priorities. Consider what this means for curriculum intent and how to design meaningful experiences that reflect the way two-year-olds learn best.

Part 2: Extending Learning Through Provision and Interaction

Examine how high-quality interactions and well-planned environments turn play into powerful learning opportunities. Reflect on how to extend children’s thinking, communication, and independence through everyday routines and moments of discovery.

Part 3: Building Confident, Connected Learners

Strengthen practice to ensure consistency, continuity, and effective transitions as two-year-olds grow and move through settings. Identify how to embed sustained approaches that build confidence, security, and a strong sense of belonging.

Key Benefits:

  • Gain deeper insight into how two-year-olds learn, think, and develop through play and exploration

  • Enhance professional practice by connecting theory to practical strategies that enrich daily provision and interaction

  • Build confidence and continuity in supporting the progression of two-year-olds across the setting and into future learning
