Strengthening High Quality SEND Practice in the EYFS

Supporting and upskilling practitioners to deliver excellent practice and provision to meet the needs of children with SEND in the EYFS.

Description

Delivered through a lens of neurodiversity-affirming practice in the early years, this course builds on the ‘Developing High Quality SEND practice in the early years’ series, to explore three key areas of inclusive practice and support.

Delivered as either a full day face-to-face event, or as three webinars, the course covers:

Supporting shared attention through connection and curiosity

Explore ways to inspire joint attention through connection, play and interaction. Consider practical ways to encourage spontaneous communication, create an environment that provides opportunities for engagement; and build social communication opportunities into your practice and provision.

Supporting sensory processing differences through sensory circuits

Explore sensory processing differences and ways in which to support these within the classroom. Consider how to use sensory-based movement activities such as sensory circuits, to help children achieve optimal sensory regulation in order to prepare for learning activities.

Developing and delivering a bespoke curriculum

Consider how to develop a bespoke curriculum to meet the needs of children with complex needs / children working at levels significantly lower than their chronological age. Explore curriculum design, assessment, tracking, working with parents and ‘entry’ and ‘exit’ points into the school’s curriculum.

Benefits:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of SEND in the early years

  • Explore ways to embed interventions into your everyday practice and provision

  • Consider ways to develop and deliver a bespoke curriculum to support children with the most complex needs
