Strengthening Writing Outcomes in the EYFS

Inspire young writers and raise standards in writing in the EYFS

Description

Join us for this course that is either offered as a full day event or as a series of three 90-minute webinars and has been designed to provide insightful CPD opportunities for your early years and leaderships teams. Guiding and supporting children’s early writing is a skilful process and this will be explored in depth during this session packed with practical solutions. Starting with child development and taking the latest research into account, practitioners will consider the experiences, activities and support they provide to promote children’s passion, confidence and skill in writing.

Part 1: Exploring the National Picture

We start by exploring key documentation, research and data to provide us with a clear picture of the national issues regarding the development of early writing. We will use this national picture to inform key questions and reflections relating to our practice.

Part 2: The Developmental Stages of Early Writing

We will consider each of the developmental stages of writing . This will include the development of physical skills needed for writing and mark- making, the development of phonological awareness and the emergence of narrative skills. We will explore the journey of writing development in detail and consider how to plan for and create an environment rich in writing possibilities.

Part 3: Challenging and Inspiring Young Writers

Finally, we will explore effective teaching strategies for extending writing skills in a wide range of contexts. This will include routines to develop crucial narrative skills, purposeful group activities and a range of key texts which can be used to inspire young writers. We will also explore writing expectations at the end of the EYFS and consider key questions to inform our practice.
