Let's Take Mark Making into Writing in the EYFS

How to Develop Keen, Enthusiastic Writers: Practical ideas to promote children’s passion, confidence and skill from early mark making to confident writing

Description

As children become more confident, engaged and excited about their mark making and begin to understand real writing, it is critical to offer support in ways that maintain children’s love of writing and its meaning in a range of contexts - for notes, lists, letters, stories and so on.

Leading children’s mark making towards writing is a skilful process and in this session we will explore the development from early mark making to confident writing.

Practitioners will consider the experiences, activities and support they can provide to promote children’s passion, confidence and skill in writing. You and your team will gain inspirational ideas to help you develop writing opportunities indoors and out in ways that ensure, as children develop the skills of writing, they apply these within their play with greater complexity.

Benefits:

  • A deeper understanding of the development of early writing skills

  • Practical ideas to support children

  • Clear grasp of ways to develop your practice in this aspect
