Strengthening Curriculum Development in the EYFS
Strengthening the Learning Journey: Curriculum Development with the Child at the Heart
Description
Designing an Early Years curriculum which fulfils statutory requirements, meets the evolving contextual needs of the school community, and provides opportunities for children to explore their unique interests, is a complex process. Therefore, if we want to design an impactful curriculum for our own unique school landscape, we need to have firm understanding of what we are aiming to achieve.
This in-depth course draws on our extensive partnership work with schools across the country. It has been designed to provide clear steps to enable you to create a curriculum that embeds learning throughout your early years and beyond. Truly building a secure foundation of learning.
Across the two days, you will participate in a range of practical planning activities, and explore inspiring, innovative examples of curriculum planning structures. We will look closely at the relationship between your provision and your curriculum, with a specific focus on progression and how this may look in terms of resources and teaching. We will also unpick the relationship between your curriculum and our knowledge of child development and how young children learn.
Together we will consider the ‘Core Learning’ you want your children to gain during the EYFS and the role the Characteristics of Effective Learning have in curriculum development; whilst looking at strategies for creating a curriculum which is flexible and responsive to children’s changing needs, and reflective of current research findings.
Crucially, we will explore how the child can be placed at the heart of this process and be addressing how we can ensure that the ‘Child’s Curriculum’ is valued, celebrated, and integrated into the design process.
With lots of opportunities for discussion, participants will be able to gain new knowledge, discuss shared concerns and reflect on their own expertise and practice, as they enrich their professional knowledge and focus on how to shape actions for the future development of their EYFS curriculum.
Delegates will be invited to complete gap tasks and will also receive additional resources to use back in school to enrich learning.
